What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are a cosmetic treatment used for a wide range of dental and cosmetic problems, such as stained, gapped, and mildly misaligned teeth, taking the shape and shade of your teeth to the optimal level. As one of the minimally invasive dental procedures, veneers are thin layers of composite resin, porcelain, or ceramics bonded to the facial surfaces of your front teeth, requiring less drilling and cutting of the tooth structure compared to crowns.
What Problems Do Dental Veneers in Olympia Fix?
Deciding to get dental veneers placed isn’t necessarily as straightforward as it may seem, as it depends on many factors determined after the first examination. Dr. Xu will advise if you are a good candidate for veneers based on the factors below.
Stained or Discolored Teeth
Since our team prefers biomimetic dentistry and the least invasive cosmetic procedures while ensuring our patients receive excellent results, we recommend teeth whitening or bleaching as the first choice in cases of discoloration. However, some teeth are deeply stained, making teeth whitening ineffective; veneers may be a good option.
Mildly Misaligned Teeth
Did you know that veneers can correct tooth alignment? These noninvasive porcelain layers are placed over front teeth with a mild degree of misalignment, and they may be an alternative to other invasive orthodontic treatments. However, veneers are not typically the best option for severely misaligned teeth or more serious orthodontic issues.
Misshaped Teeth
Whether you have short or long teeth that make your smile curve uneven and not quite ‘perfect,’ veneers could be the solution! Placing veneers over your front teeth appears to modify their length, shape, and contour, giving you an even and attractive smile.
Gapped Teeth
If you have minor gaps between your front teeth, referred to as diastema, veneers could effectively fill these gaps, helping your teeth appear aligned without any gaps. What does this mean for you? An improved smile and increased confidence! Small Cracks or Chips in the Front Teeth
When you experience minor cracks or chips in your front teeth, veneers are a more conservative option than crowns. They cover your affected teeth and reduce any sensitivity or discomfort. So, you can save your natural tooth structure while maintaining a radiant smile!
What is the Process for Getting Esthetic Veneers?
If Dr. Xu determines you are a good candidate for dental veneers after an initial consultation, here’s what the process will look like:
Examination
During the first visit, our team performs a detailed intraoral and extraoral examination to determine if veneers suit your clinical situation.
Teeth Preparation
Unlike crowns, dental veneers require minimal preparation and tissue cutting, so Dr. Xu takes a very conservative approach. He removes only a few millimeters of the facial surfaces of your front teeth, creating the space for the proper placement of veneers.
Digital Impression
After the preparation, our team captures a 3D digital impression, helping us fabricate veneers custom-designed to fit your smile. Additionally, we cover the prepared teeth with temporary veneers to avoid any pain or sensitivity between visits.
Bonding
Once your final veneers are made, they are bonded to your front teeth using strong adhesives, keeping them in place for years. Depending on numerous factors, including how well they are cared for, they can last for 10-20 years. Further adjustments might be necessary to ensure their proper adaptation.
Who Isn’t a Good Candidate for Dental Veneers in Olympia?
The team at Precision Dentistry of Olympia is committed to only recommending what is genuinely in your best interests. While we offer a range of cosmetic dental procedures, what sets our office apart is Dr. Xu’s conservative approach to dentistry, his genuine care for you as a person, and your financial situation. To that end, our office will only recommend a treatment plan that makes sense.
If you have any of the following oral health issues, you are likely not a good candidate for porcelain composite resin veneers:
- Periodontal or gum diseases
- Insufficient tooth enamel
- Habits like teeth grinding (Bruxism) and nail-biting
- Poor oral hygiene
Are Dental Veneers Affordable?
At Precision Dental of Olympia, we are very transparent with our patients, so we offer a range of cosmetic treatments that fit their budget, maintain their oral health, and help them get their dream smile. When considering the financial aspect, dental veneers are more expensive than other invasive procedures like crowns. However, they are easier on your mouth and your natural tooth structure. Also, several materials are used for veneers, like composite resin, porcelain, and ceramics, allowing you to choose the most affordable and convenient option!
