Metal Partial Dentures Instructions
Instructions for Use of Metal Partial Dentures
Metal partial dentures are a type of removable dental prosthetic device used to replace one or more missing teeth. They are typically made of a metal framework with acrylic resin and/or porcelain teeth attached to it. Metal frameworks are custom-made to fit your mouth and are designed to be as comfortable and unobtrusive as possible.
Seating the Denture
Seating a metal partial denture in the mouth can be done using the following steps:
- Ensure that the partial is clean and free of any debris.
- Rinse your mouth with warm water before inserting the partial denture.
- Gently place the partial denture in the mouth and use your fingers to guide it into place. Avoid using excessive force or pushing the partial denture too far.
- Gently bite down on the partial denture to ensure proper fit and stability.
- Be sure to wear your partial denture as directed by the dentist, which may include specific instructions on how long to wear it each day and when to remove it.
Cleaning and Care
Daily Cleaning
It is recommended to clean your partial dentures daily before and after every use. Immediately after removal, use warm water (not to exceed 45°C/113°F) or toothpaste to remove remaining saliva and debris from the device.
Using Cleaning Agents
For periodic removal of debris and maintenance, you may use any mild over-the-counter cleaning agents designed for oral devices. If needed, use a soft bristle brush to clean the inside of your partial dentures to remove any debris. The following products may be used to clean your partial dentures: dish soap, Polident, Efferdent, 3% peroxide solution, 15% bleach solution, and mouthwash.
Cautions
- DO NOT SOAK your partial dentures in any liquid for more than 1 hour.
- DO NOT SOAK your partial dentures in water hotter than 45°C/113°F due to the risk of warping them.
- DO NOT use abrasive cleaning agents (e.g., toothpaste) as it can shorten the life of your partial dentures.
- DO dispose of the cleaning solution after every use. Rinse your partial dentures well prior to use.
